Team Member Spotlight: Abraham Garcia

We are excited to spotlight a key figure in our RyeStrategy Team, Abraham Garcia. He works as our Full Stack Developer, developing our CO2 emissions calculator and new portal application. This sets the foundation for our work with clients and helps businesses see progress towards their goals. Abraham has over 12 years of experience as a Full Stack Developer with a degree in computer science.

We had the chance to learn more about Abraham’s interest in the sustainability space and his role at RyeStrategy. Read on to learn more!

Why are you interested in the sustainability space?

My interest came from living in cities where you are able to actually appreciate the view.
I was living in Monterrey, Mexico and one of the best things that the city has to offer is the view of the mountains. Some days, because of the pollution, it is difficult to appreciate such a great view. The pollution also impacts the health of the people. Now that I'm a father of 3 kids, it is important to me that I help make the planet a better place to live on.

What are you currently working on at RyeStrategy?

My role in RyeStrategy is as a Full Stack developer and to build the new portal web app to let the customer manage, coordinate and capture their progress to implement the different mitigation strategies we recommend for them. The thing that I like the most is the freedom that I have, the technologies used to build this application, and the impact I'm having in the project as a SOLO developer. It is nice to feel that the CEO trusts you and your decisions.

I am also currently working on building the newest version of a calculator for the future. It calculates emission based on user input.

What recommendation or piece of advice would you give to someone wanting to make a difference in their company's sustainability journey?

I believe the biggest one is remote work. Obviously not all industries can afford to offer that or some people prefer to work at the office. But, if you're a company that can offer remote work, that is my best recommendation. Sometimes it is difficult because you don't know how to manage people/projects in a remote environment so I would like to recommend the book "Remote". This book is from Basecamp -- they have 20 years of experience working remotely and insight on how companies can run successfully by implementing it.

What are your hobbies and what’s one fun fact about yourself?

My hobbies include spending time with my family and friends, playing with my kids, and playing soccer.

Tune in for our next member spotlight. Each team member makes what we do possible! :)
