Team Member Spotlight - Hannah Moskowitz

“I think sustainability is that sweet spot between working to save the planet and understanding how businesses can be an integral part of that.”

- Hannah Moskowitz, Sustainability Manager

We’d like to introduce our newest team member, Hannah Moskowitz, who is joining us as our Sustainability Manager!

After earning a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Political Science with a focus on Public Policy and an M.A. in Environmental Resource Policy at The George Washington University, Hannah has dedicated her career to the sustainability field. She’s worked in various industries such as non-profit, university, building management, and consulting.

One of her career highlights includes helping American University achieve carbon neutrality two years ahead of schedule, making them the first university in the US to announce carbon neutrality.

As RyeStrategy’s Sustainability Manager, Hannah will be working with clients to fulfill their carbon neutrality goals. Hannah will work directly with clients to calculate their carbon footprint, establish and implement mitigation strategies, create offset portfolios, and leverage their results. She will also help develop new products and services that will allow RyeStrategy and our clients to be innovative and remain on the forefront of business sustainability.

Despite her already busy schedule, we managed to sit down with Hannah and learn more about her experiences, why she’s interested in sustainability, and the work she’s already doing at RyeStrategy.

Why are you interested in the sustainability space?

I think sustainability is that sweet spot between working to save the planet and understanding how businesses can be an integral part of that.

With the sustainability movement gaining momentum over the past few years, I have loved being a part of it and seeing how it’s taken shape and directed attention at businesses to take a look at their usage, emissions, etc. It’s become more about how businesses can make a significant difference - not just the individual.

What has been your favorite project at RyeStrategy to work on?

Since I’m fairly new, I’ve enjoyed just learning the ropes of all the processes and meeting all the faces behind the names. I’m looking forward to digging into the client work in the next few weeks and meeting all our clients as well.

What recommendation or piece of advice would you give to someone wanting to make a difference in their company's sustainability journey?

Oftentimes there is pushback from executives when the conversation is just about the environment and making a difference in the world. That is, of course, incredibly important, but there are also other benefits on top of just doing good for the planet. There’s always the opportunity to change the narrative and talk about the marketing benefits of becoming carbon neutral, the financial benefits of mitigating emissions, and so much more.

What are your hobbies, and what’s one fun fact about yourself?

On the weekends, my husband, daughter and I like to try out different coffee shops in the area and go hiking with our two rescue pitbull mixes.

A fun fact about me is that I currently still hold the record at my high school for the most amount of saves as a women’s lacrosse goalie :)

Anything else you’d like to share?

I’m super excited to be a part of the RyeStrategy team and working towards carbon neutrality for all small/medium software and professional service businesses and more!
